Awards and Prizes
Some Statements:
I study Reward in mice. I know how important it is for motivated behaviors -- in a preview I recently published, I wrote: ”motivated behaviors, occurring in pursuit of goals, are essential for the survival of species including humans". However, I always remind myself, rewards (or awards) are not purposes. We have a greater purposes than this.Wenqiang Chen, Ph.D.
This section only shows what I have achieved in the past.
It does not say anything about my future, but I think it can predict.

Some "failed" applications
Some Statements:
We learn from failures. Learning is a process of making errors and getting improvement.
I have a lot of failed experiences. In a life as a researcher, you wouldn't be surprised until at some stages like mine, you will realize that, most of the time you are facing failures. You just have to live with it. You will need a strong heart.
I used to consider these application failures, until my previous PI (Dr. Karolina Sulek) told me, "you should consider them as achievements, you've made so far to be in this step, this is a huge achievement, sometimes you just need a little bit luck". For that, I deeply appreciate Karolina's words, which makes me look at failures in a very different angle.Wenqiang Chen, Ph.D.
There are several in their finals, but unfortuanately I didnot get them. But they also deserve a honorary mention
2024 King’s Prize Fellowship (failed)
I was invited for an onsite interview for this prize, but I then decided to use zoom version because I did not have a UK visa.
Unfortuanately I did not get the prize.
2013 Fulbright-RGC (Hong Kong) Scholar Program (failed)
I was in the final and invited for a interview on December 18, 2013 at the Research Grants Council.
I was then recommended by the Council to be on the “shortlist for a prize”, if someone drops the awarded prize.
