A Violin Player

Violin is always sitting in the deep core of my life, no matter in which universe

From a young age, I dreamt of a life of living as a professional violinist.

My childhood dream as a violinist

From a young age, I dreamt of a life defined by the melodies of the violin, imagining a future filled with concert halls and captivating performances.

Listin to the albums was the happiest thing to me. It is now still the happiest thing.

The violin’s elegant strings held a special place in my deepest heart, guiding me through the complexities of music and inspiring my pursuit of artistic life. However, life took me on an unexpected yet equally exciting journey into the world of neuroscience. As I navigated this new path, I found that the creativity I cherished in music can actually be seamlessly translated into my scientific endeavors.

Today, my passion for discovery and innovation harmoniously echoes the dedication I once poured into playing the violin.

The rhythm of dreams can evolve into the cadence of new aspirations.

Violin albums that inspired me most

I have collected >2,000 copies of classical music albums, mostly at home in China. Now I am collecting LP in Boston.

Mostly I enjoy the albums of those violinists:

  • The notable figures who are remembered by music fans for ever (names listed by ranking in my heart)
  1. Jascha Heifetz, all-time best violinist, he is a god among all violinists.
  2. Yehudi Menuhin, I love his Beethoven Violin Concerto very much.
  3. Artur Grumiaux, whose Mozart interpretation is the best
  4. Nathan Milstein, whose Bach Sonata is the best of all
  5. Zino Francescatti
  6. David Oistrakh
  7. Mischa Elman, who is an very underestimated violinist
  8. Fritz Freisler, who is actually equal to Heifetz.

  • These violinists who are still alive and I think they are the best living violinists of our time
  1. Anne-Sophie Mutter, she was the reason I falled in love with the violin: her album on Carmen Fantasy is the one that brought me into the world of classical music. This was my first album in my life.
  2. James Ehnes, he is an extremely underestimated violinist. This is the current Heifetz of our time.
  3. Gil Shaham

  • The rest of violinists are the ones that I also love very much
  1. Joshua Bell
  2. Itzhak Perlman
  3. Midori
  4. Hilary Hahn
  5. Ray Chen
  6. Leila Josefowicz
